REVISED: Essay 1
In the first half of the book the Odyssey of Homer, there were two prominent codes of behavior displayed. Those were the Hospitality code and Vengeance code. These codes played a major factor because in that time period they were illustrated as laws of the Gods. The Hospitality code was to openly welcome guests into ones home and provide them with food to eat, and also a good time. The guest would introduce themselves, tell their origin, the journey ahead, and their fathers name. Upon leaving guests would recieve a gift from the host.

Another form of hospitality code is when Odysseus arrived in Ithaca and comes home Penelope took Odysseus and provided him with clothes food and shelter. A form of breaking the hospitality code was when Odyssues entered the cave of the Cyclops and demanded a gift. Also before demanding a gift Odysseus intruded into the cave before even being welcomed inside. Then to add injury to insult Odyssues left the cave without stating his information until Odysseus boared his ship. Then Odysseus shouted to the Cyclops if anyone ask who blinded you tell them Odysseus did this to you.

The vengeance code states that any person can take revenge on another individual if that person has committed a crime against that person's family. These codes are completely different but have similar underlying messages that contribute to the society. An example of vengeance is when Poseidon made it hard for Odysseus to return to Ithaca, due to the fact that Odysseus blinded Poseidon's son Cyclops then then bragged about it. So if Odysseus never committed this crime he would have been home before twenty years.
These two codes where important because it was a custom that everyone abided by them because the Gods said so, and it was law no matter where anyone went. Also they were so important because if the Gods saw anyone not following their laws that person would go through some type of hardship from the Gods. The Gods tried to envoke to the people that if you do good, good things will be done for you. On the other hand the Gods wanted to ensure that if you did harm to others they had the right to return the favor. The main message is karma, meaning whats goes around comes around, this message applied to evey human.

Essay 2 REVISED 2
A hero in a sense has to have god like qualities he or she has to acquire charcteristics that stand out from the ordinary. A hero is admired for his abilty to accomplish task that the average human being is unable to. The typical hero in modern day society can be classified as a mother, father, or just a role model for the youth to look up to. At a political stand the president is considered a hero in a sense because he is the leader of our country. When the president is sworn in he/she promises to have the ability to lead by example. A hero must also be a well rounded individual that is not selfish at any point, and in some sense emotionless to some of the task they may face. Odysseus's personality satisfied many of these qualities of being cunning, judgement, and eloquence.

Odysseus heroic qualities that played a major factor was his strength and his intellegence. For example, when Odysseus was triumph over the Cyclops, Odysseus physically could not beat the Cyclops. So Odysseus used his intellegence to his advantage, and told his men to get under the sheep so they can ride him and his men out of the cave. Also, Odysseus showes his strength when he returned to Ithaca and entered the contest and he was the only man to string the bow besides his son. Another case Odysseus showed his cunning ability was when he pretended to be a bagger and he fooled everyone including his own family.
The strongest quality that Odysseus displayed to show why he was a hero, was his ability to have great judgement. Though Odysseus knew all the men that went on this journey with him would not make it back to Ithaca, he kept their spirits high at all times. After they made it out of a couple near death experiences at times he always said men were going home to our wives and children. Also by having great judgement this helped Odysseus ego and made him fearless. Any average man would have probably given up and said Im never going to make it home. Odysseus on the other hand fought through everything, Posiden threw his way and was determine to make it home. By Odysseus possessing these qualities of fearlessness, strength, and cunning ability, the biggest challenege was facing his wife and son after twenty years and not being with them as Odysseus but as a begger. This in my opinion made Odysseus have a strong lack of emotion, and more built up anger inside. Odysseus lack of emotion strengthed him to be a better hero.
Another strong quality Odysseus possessed was being a great speaker so he was able to manipulate people with his words. For example when Odysseus washed ashore on a strange island where he felt lost . Odysseus quickly adapted to his surrounding and when Odysseus saw the young women he used his suave abaility to get clothes and food. Odysseus being such a great speaker when he was on the island of Scheria he was able to get Nausicca to trust him. His speaking ablity contributed to role as a hero because in my opinion as a hero you have to be able to convince people to trust you to lead them to greatness, just simply through speech.
‍‍‍A hero is one who can take the lead and in times when things get hard he or she will not buckle under pressure. A hero can be measured many different ways but if he or she is faced with an obstacle the task at the end will get completed. Odysseus did keep to his word and the out come he did reach home because a hero is always determined. Odysseus having these phenomenal qualities of being cunning, judgement kept him out of life ending situations. These qualities not only assisted him but they elevated his eloquence.

Essay 3 Revised

The book is a tragic love story that concludes with the lost of an innocent life. This silent onesided war started because Iago thought Othello had some kind of relations with his wife. Considering the idea that Othello was more intuned with his men than his own wife. Iago knew that he could manipulate Othellos men to take down of Othello wouldnt be that difficult.

It was avident that from the beginnig Roderigo had a negative attitude toward Othello because he had taken Desdemona's hand in marriage. Iago makes a offer which could not resist, Iago is able to convince him if gives him a payment he can guarantee Roderigo will marry Desdemona. Throughout the progression of the story Iago believes Cassio is a road block in his plans because of his loyalty to Othello. Iago has now found numerous ways to use Roderigo as a puppet. Iago fills Roderigo head with the idea of Cassio being a complusive drinker and a potential rival to win Desdemona's heart. Roderigo was now conviced that he should kill Rodergio
Cassio is a loyal soldier to Othello and Cassio is also a young lieutenant for his age,and also is good looking. Iago uses this aganist the downfall of Cassio. After Cassio gets into a brawl in Cyprus. Lago now had some substance on his alligations of Cassio being a young immature drunk. Lago is able to get into Othello's head to show his the downfall of Cassio because of how he drinks, Othello then snatches Cassio's ranking away. Iago understands how much Othello loves Desdemona and that any indiscretion in his marriage he will bring to a complete hault. Iago convinces Othello that Cassio is a very handsome man who she be aware of when it comes to his wife. These thoughts which Iago puts in Othello head make him have second thoughts on who to trust and insecurities of Desdemona arise in his mind.

Othello was decieved by a a sneaky conniving man named Iargo. Iago was great at manipulating Othello, Cassio, and Rodregio because in their eye's he was precieved to be a great friend. Iago gained their trust one day only to satisfy his own urges for Desdemona. Iago was a intelligent man and he took total advantage of the situations. For example Othello gave Desdemona a handkerchief which she misplaced and was then discovered by Iago. Iago then gives Desdemona's handkerchief to Cassio. Othello being unaware of Desdemona misplacing her handkerchief Iago waits for an oppurtunity to make it seem as though she gave it to Caasio.

Through all of Othello's, Cassio's and Roderigo mistakes, greed, insecurities Iago saw the the opportunity to take advantage of them. The main issue is never trust a book by its cover. Also if more communication was to happen this would rectify all problems soon as they arrive.
